2024 Player Outlook
Every single TE1 in PPR in 2023 finished top two on their team in targets and Ferguson was no exception. He finished second behind CeeDee Lamb with 102 targets and was the TE9 in PPR. The Cowboys did not do much in terms of weapons - in fact they lost Tony Pollard and Michael Gallup while only adding Ryan Flournoy as a sixth round wide receiver and bringing back Ezekiel Elliott. Ferguson might not be super athletic but he should be in line for a decent number of targets once again in 2024.
Player News
Jake Ferguson caught 2-of-4 targets for 12 yards in the Cowboys’ Week 18 loss to the Commanders.
Injuries slowed down a good start to the season for Ferguson, as he finishes with 59 receptions for 494 yards and no scores. He was a top-three receiving option in the offense with Dak Prescott, but his role withered with Cooper Rush. Ferguson ends the season as a stable fantasy TE2, a fantasy outlook managers can buy low on heading into 2025. A healthy Dak Prescott should give Ferguson a higher ceiling, putting him into the top-12 fantasy tight end mix next season.
Jake Ferguson caught 3-of-5 targets for 18 yards in the Cowboys’ Week 17 loss to the Eagles.
Ferguson’s biggest play of the day went in the Eagles’ favor. Ferguson fumbled after catching a six-yard pass in the second quarter, only to see Eagles defensive lineman Jordan Davis emerge with the ball. Ferguson has struggled since his return from injury, catching just 14 passes for 113 scoreless yards in his last four games. He’ll be a boom or bust TE2 in next week’s finale against the Commanders.
Jake Ferguson caught 6-of-9 targets for 40 yards in the Cowboys’ Week 16 win over the Buccaneers.
Ferguson saw his role increase in the second half after CeeDee Lamb landed hard again on his injured shoulder, which minimized the alpha receiver’s involvement in the offense after the break. It was significant enough to limit Lamb’s snaps in the second half, something fantasy managers of either player will want to track in the coming week of practice ahead of a Week 17 showdown with the Eagles.
Jake Ferguson caught 2-of-4 targets for 23 yards in the Cowboys’ Week 15 win over the Panthers.
Backup Luke Schoonmaker didn’t see a target in this game. Despite nixing any notions of a tight end room by committee, Ferguson hasn’t put up usable fantasy numbers in two games since returning from the concussion he suffered in Week 11. He went for 32 yards on three grabs last week and his already-modest numbers took a hit versus the Panthers. Ferguson should be treated as a low-end TE2 until he turns things around, which may not happen before the end of the fantasy season.
