Javonte Williams rushed 10 times for 76 yards in the Cowboys’ Week 3 loss against the Bears, adding five catches for 18 yards on five targets.

Only two of his rushes came after the first half, with the Cowboys trailing by double digits the entire time. Nothing wrong with Williams this week and he still nearly got to 100 total yards despite the bad game script, the snap counts falling are likely more about how bad the blowout was than anything to be concerned about. He’ll be on the RB2 line next week against the Packers.

Hard to be upset about Williams’ production through two games. He had 55 of Dallas’ 76 snaps in Week 2 and the Cowboys offensive line has been spectacular about creating holes for him, generating enough space for his 30-yard score to have Williams only dealing with arm tackles through the middle. He’s been a league-winning pick through two weeks, and neither Miles Sanders nor the inactive Jaydon Blue look particularly close to cutting into his snap share. We’ll be rolling with Williams as an RB2 in Week 3 against the Bears.

Williams capped each of the Cowboys’ first two drives with one-yard scoring plunges. That’s good work if you can get it. If you include passing touchdowns, it was just the third two-score effort of Williams’ checkered career. Williams did not look explosive between the tackles, but he dominated snaps and touches, a trend that will undoubtedly continue for Week 2 after Miles Sanders lost a red zone fumble this evening. That being said, we would expect rookie Jaydon Blue to make his NFL debut against the Giants after he was a “healthy scratch” this evening. Blue missed most of training camp with injury. Despite tonight’s (expected) heavy workload, Williams is still more of a FLEX than RB2 for fantasy purposes.

The Cowboys listed Javonte Williams as the team’s Week 1 starter.

The starting job was Williams’ to lose, and indeed, he did not lose it. The praise stops there. Williams will likely handle a flex-worthy workload against the Eagles’ vaunted defense in Week 1, while Miles Sanders and Jaydon Blue rotate in behind him. Unless Williams regains his long-lost burst, he could end up ceding touches quickly as the weeks progress. Sanders does not need to be rostered in 12-team leagues. Buy Blue’s potential ADP dip. The talented receiving back is a good fit for the Cowboys’ expectedly pass-heavy game scripts.
