The Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala reports the Commanders are hiring Sharrif Floyd as an assistant defensive line coach.
Floyd was a first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2013, falling out of the league after a few seasons due to injuries. He was hired by the Cowboys last season as an assistant defensive line and quality control coach. The Commanders now hire the 32-year-old Floyd to join their staff as an assistant defensive line coach, following Dan Quinn over from Dallas.
Cowboys hired Sharrif Floyd as assistant DL/defensive quality control coach.
The No. 23 overall pick of the 2013 Draft by the Vikings, Floyd has been out of the league since 2017. He made only one appearance after 2015. His career was never the same after Sept. 2016 knee surgery. Just 31 years old, Floyd is an interesting coaching prospect. An elite college recruit with a first-round pedigree and unfortunate injury issues, he figures to have a unique perspective.
Sharrif Floyd will be placed on injured reserve.
Floyd only appeared in only one game in 2016, undergoing a knee surgery that was supposed to be a "clean up" procedure but was never able to recover enough to get back on the field. Floyd is a former first-rounder and still possesses plenty of upside and figures to mix into the Vikings plans for at least 2017.
Mike Zimmer said he didn't know how long Sharrif Floyd would be out which is why they kept him active but he won't practice Thursday.
Floyd has not been able to play since week 1, and his chances of playing this week don't sound good either. Shamar Stephen will continue to start in place of Floyd.
