Osi Umenyiora will sign a 1-day deal with the Giants to retire as a memeber of the team.
The DE spent nine of his 11 years in the league as a member of big blue nation and won both of his Super Bowl championships with the Giants. Umenyiora, 33, registered the lowest stat totals since his rookie season and it seems to be a good time for him to call it a career. Good luck to him in whatever he decides to do next.
Giants and Osi Umenyiora are discussing signing their former DE to one-day contract so he can retire a Giant.
A former second round pick of the Giants in 2003, the now 33-year-old DE is going to retire and could return to the Giants to do that. A key part of the Giants two recent Super Bowl runs, he left as a free agent and played his final two seasons in Atlanta. Umenyiora was a very good Defensive End during his career and we wish him good luck with his future endeavors.
Jets met with defensive end Osi Umenyiora on Wednesday.
Umenyiora played in all 16 games last season but only tallied 2.5 sacks. Also, he never even started a game, so it is understandable why he hasn't been heavily sought after this offseason. Umenyiora isn't the player he once was and no fantasy owner should get cute and draft him in IDP leagues. Keep in mind that he wouldn't start on the stacked Jets defensive line.
Osi Umenyiora says he has no plans to retire.
The veteran is 34 years old and had a major regression during the 2014 season. He only notched two and half sacks on 347 snaps for the Falcons' terrible defense. There were rumors swirling that he could make a return to the Giants but conflicting reports had him interested in heading to New England. Umenyiora has said he'd like to retire as a member of the G-Men.
