Alex Henery
Player News
The Lions have released Alex Henery, Head coach Jim Caldwell announced.
No surprise here as Henery missed all three field goal attempts Sunday and was just 1-for-5 over two games. David Akers looks to be the front-runner to replace him but the Lions will audition a few kickers over the next day or two.
Alex Henery missed all three field goal chances on Sunday against the Bills but successfully converted both extra-points.
It looks like the Lions could be in the market for another kicker, potentially their third of the season, as Henery botched kicks from 44, 47 and 50 yards out which, in the end, cost them the game. While the Lions should have been scoring touchdowns on the Bills instead of relying on the kicking game, nine points left on the field is a definite no-no. The team was quick to pull the plug on Nate Freese and are now likely to do the same with Henery who is now just 1-for-5 in field goal attempts for them.
Alex Henery was 1-for-2 on field goals and converted all three extra-points during Sunday's win over the Jets.
Henery made his Lions debut on Sunday after signing with the team just days prior, making him presence felt after nailing a 51 yard field goal in the first quarter. Since Matthew Stafford has taken over at quarterback for the Lions, the team\'s kicker has received plenty of work throughout the years based on the high volume of offense the team provides, so if Henery can remain consistent he makes for a solid bye-week filler moving forward.
Lions plan to sign K Alex Henery.
With rookie Nate Freese now just 3-for-7 on field goal attempts, the Lions are going to bring in Henrey who was released earlier this year by the Eagles. He should prove to be a much more reliable option.
