NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reports Bears CB Jaylon Johnson “is likely to miss the rest of the regular season with a groin injury that will require surgery.”
Things felt like they were trending in this direction after previous reports that Johnson would be out indefinitely while the team explores whether or not the star corner will require surgery. With those questions now answered, Johnson is now slated to miss the rest of the season, but Schultz reports there’s “an outside chance he could return if Chicago is in contention.” That seems unlikely, however, as the Bears are 0-2 and looked like one of the worst defenses in the league even when Johnson was active. Johnson has been voted to the Pro Bowl in back-to-back seasons and was named a Second-Team All-Pro in 2023. If all goes well with his recovery, we would expect him to be ready in time for training camp next offseason.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Bears CB Jaylon Johnson is out indefinitely with a groin injury.
This isn’t the news a defense ranking last in YPA (9.2) allowed through the first two weeks of the season wants to hear. Johnson, a Pro Bowl corner, is still undergoing further evaluations, per Schefter, and the team is weighing whether or not surgery will be necessary to correct the issue. Johnson was sidelined throughout all of training camp with a groin injury, so it wouldn’t be surprising if this turns out to be something serious. We’ll likely have a clearer answer soon, but Johnson sounds like a virtual lock to miss Week 3’s game against the Cowboys.
Bears CB Jaylon Johnson aggravated his groin injury in Week 2 against the Lions and will not return.
Not good. The Bears’ top corner could now be looking at a multi-week absence. Chicago is hosting CeeDee Lamb’s Cowboys for Week 3, so Johnson’s health is of paramount concern.
Bears CB Jaylon Johnson (calf/groin) is not on Chicago’s final injury report for Week 2.
He’ll be active for the first time this season after missing Week 1. Kyler Gordon (hamstring) remains sidelined for the Bears defense. It’s good news for Chicago ahead of their date with the Lions, with Detroit certainly be looking to be more effective in the passing game after Week 1’s blunder in Green Bay.
