2025 Player Outlook
Thorpe went under the knife back in September to remove a bone spur, and the plan is for him to resume throwing in February. One would figure that the team plays it very conservatively with their talented young pitcher, so it wouldn't be terribly surprising to see him a bit delayed to begin the year. It's never good when your walk rate and strikeout rate are within two percentage points of one another, but that's how it was with Thorpe last year, as he posted a 13.2 percent strikeout rate and 11.1 percent walk rate. He was crushed by home runs last year, inflating his ERA to 5.48 (4.71 xERA), but his minor league numbers show that he can be a very effective arm, especially with his changeup as the headliner of his arsenal. When healthy, he has a spot in the team's rotation, but his spring training likely being impacted in some manner is less than ideal.
