Palencia has struck out seven batters over four innings this season at the Triple-A level. The 25-year-old hurler figures to pitch in middle relief initially, but could work his way into some high-leverage spots. He’ll join Chicago’s relief mix ahead of Tuesday night’s showdown against the Padres.

Palencia will open the year back in the minors as extra organizational relief depth. The 25-year-old righty holds a serviceable 5.02 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 49/26 K/BB ratio across 43 innings (37 appearances) in the big leagues since 2023.

Palencia was only up with the Cubs for a little over 24 hours. He’s sent down with Justin Steele (elbow) returning to make a start against Oakland on Wednesday.

Palencia has a 7.11 ERA in nine appearances for the Cubs this year. He has a 4.97 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 66 strikeouts in 38 innings at Triple-A. He’s not an option in fantasy at the moment.
