Rockies placed RHP Victor Vodnik on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 17, with right shoulder inflammation.

Vodnik hits the shelf ahead of Sunday’s twin bill against the Nationals. The 25-year-old righty has compiled a solid 4.50 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 8/6 K/BB ratio across eight innings (nine appearances). No word yet on how much time he’s going to miss.

Victor Vodnik picked up his first save of the season on Sunday afternoon, recording the final five outs in a victory over the Athletics.

This one may be a bit misleading though. Vodnik came on to pitch with one out in the eighth inning with the Rockies leading 7-4 and he got through that inning unscathed. The Rockies then tacked on five runs in the top home half of the eighth and Vodnik returned for the ninth to protect that new eight-run advantage. He ultimately allowed one run on two hits and a pair of walks in his 1 2/3 frames. It still seems like it’s a fluid situation in the ninth inning for the Rockies with Seth Halvorsen and Tyler Kinley still in the mix for save chances as well.

Seth Halvorsen and Victor Vodnik combined to give up two runs in the eighth in the Rockies’ loss to the Twins on Tuesday.

The Rockies really wanted to get Vodnik into this one, apparently, because Halvorsen had gotten two outs and allowed only a soft single in a 3-3 game. Vodnik took over with the runner on second and gave up hits to both batters he faced, with the inning ending because a runner was thrown out on the bases. It resulted in a loss for Halvorsen, as the Rockies were defeated 5-3. Vodnik and Halvorsen could both be in the mix for saves in Colorado, though Tyler Kinley seems like the favored option. Kinley had easily the best spring, pitching 6 2/3 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts. Vodnik had a 4.91 ERA and an 8/1 K/BB in 7 1/3 innings. Halvorsen had a 6.75 ERA and a 10/5 K/BB in 9 1/3 innings.

Victor Vodnik took a blown save yet wound up with a win after giving up three runs in the eighth inning Friday against the Cubs.

Vodnik surrendered a game-tying three-run homer, only to wind up with the victory after the Rockies scored four times in the bottom of the eighth. Vodnik is currently working in a setup role in front of Tyler Kinley, so there’s no sense in using him in mixed leagues right now. He should be unavailable Saturday after making his third appearance in four days tonight.
