Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic report that the Cubs and Yankees are among the teams looking into free-agent reliever Brooks Raley.

Raley underwent Tommy John surgery with an internal brace procedure at the end of May, so he won’t be ready to pitch until near the end of 2025 at the earliest. The 36-year-old southpaw has been effective over the last two-plus seasons, and is likely looking at a two-year deal since he won’t be of much use this summer.

Mets transferred LHP Brooks Raley from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Raley is off the 40-man roster. It’s a procedural move as the 35-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery at the end of May, and he’s unlikely to pitch again until late in 2025.

Raley also had an internal brace procedure performed on his left elbow as well. He’s presumably thrown his final pitch with the Mets as he’s slated to become a free agent this offseason. The 35-year-old lefty is likely to miss the vast majority of the 2025 season.

Brooks Raley will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Raley has been on the shelf since spring training due to ligament damage and bone spurs in his left elbow, which will wind up requiring surgery. The 35-year-old southpaw will likely be out until at least the late stages of the 2025 campaign, so it’s fair to wonder whether he’ll make it back at this advanced stage of his career. It’s a big loss for the Mets as Raley was one of their more reliable left-handed relief options.
