2025 Player Outlook
Doval lost his closer's job after seeing his walk rate balloon to 14.4 percent. He was better than his 4.88 ERA, as suggested by a 3.44 xERA and .333 BABIP, but it was still a clear step back for Doval. He figures to operate in high leverage situations and is quality insurance for the Giants should Ryan Walker falter in the closer's role.
Player News
Camilo Doval pitched a perfect top of the ninth in a tie game Sunday and was credited with a win against the Rangers.
Doval was fortunate to get the bottom of the lineup and struck out two of the three batters he faced. He then won when the Giants scored in the bottom of the frame. He hasn’t necessarily overtaken Ryan Walker in the Giants’ plans, but he’s worth a roster spot in mixed leagues right now.
Camilo Doval picked up his fifth save of the season on Thursday afternoon, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a one-run lead against the Brewers.
Doval didn’t make it easy on himself, issuing a leadoff walk to Caleb Durbin to put the tying run on base. He rallied though, getting Brice Turang and Sal Frelick on fly balls to left field before allowing a single to Christian Yelich. Doval then battled back and got Rhys Hoskins on a fly ball to center to end it. He has proven to be a capable option in the ninth inning and with Ryan Walker struggling, it looks like he may start to see additional opportunities. The 27-year-old hurler should be scooped up in any fantasy leagues where he may still be available, preferably as a handcuff for Walker.
Camilo Doval got the final two outs to get a save against the Brewers on Wednesday.
Doval had to get the final two outs after Ryan Walker gave up two runs and getting just one out. Doval was up to the task while picking up a strikeout and throwing 5-of-6 pitches for strikes. The right-hander has saved four games, but Walker should remain the closer despite his struggles. For now, anyway.
Camilo Doval turned in a perfect ninth with a three-run lead for his third save Monday against the Brewers.
Ryan Walker, who blew a save Sunday, was unavailable after throwing 44 pitches the previous two days. It’s unlikely that Doval has made up any ground on Walker since Opening Day, but he’s hanging around as a perfectly fine fallback in the closer’s role.
