Angels and LHP Brock Burke avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.15 million contract.
The two sides will avoid an arbitration hearing with Burke, who was claimed off waivers last August after being cut loose by the division-rival Rangers. The 28-year-old southpaw figures to operate in low-leverage spots for Los Angeles next season.
Angels claimed LHP Brock Burke off waivers from the Rangers.
The Angels picked up both Burke and former St. Louis reliever Nick Robertson off waivers Tuesday. Burke provides some left-handed depth in the bullpen, but he’s been awful in his limited sample in the majors this year with a 9.22 ERA and 2.20 WHIP.
Rangers designated LHP Brock Burke for assignment.
Burke, 28, has struggled to a 9.22 ERA and 2.20 WHIP over 13 2/3 innings so far. He’s not long removed from being a strong option out of the bullpen, so another team could show interest in the southpaw on the waiver wire.
Rangers recalled LHP Brock Burke from Triple-A Round Rock.
Burke is back to take the roster spot of Jacob Latz with Latz now on the injured list with forearm tightness. Burke was once among the better relievers on the Texas roster, but he’s struggled with injuries and had just a 7.56 ERA in nine appearances before being demoted at the end of June.
