Emilio Pagán pitched a flawless ninth with a three-run lead for his fifth save Wednesday against the Reds.
Flawless in Miami. If he’d been pitching in Tampa, though, he’d have given up two homers, according to Statcast. All three batters he faced hit flyballs in the 330- to 350-foot range. Matt Mervis hit a ball that would have been a homer in only Tampa. Otto Lopez’s was a homer in seven ballparks. Pagán improved to 5-for-6 in save chances, and Alexis Díaz doesn’t seem to be shaping up as much of a threat to his job.
Emilio Pagan gave up two runs while blowing a save against the Mariners on Thursday.
Emilip Pagán fired a perfect ninth inning on Saturday against the Pirates to record his fourth save of the season.
Emilio Pagán got the ninth for the Reds on Friday and struck out two of the three batters he faced for his third save.
Pagán gave up a walkoff homer in extra innings Friday, but he was still the choice tonight after Graham Ashcraft pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings. Tony Santillan, seemingly the primary alternative to Pagán, went unused.
