Germen is looking to make his way back to the majors after spending the 2017 season in Japan, where he posted a 2.68 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 47 innings of relief for the Orix Buffaloes. He last appeared in the majors in 2016, though he struggled to a 5.31 ERA and 1.62 WHIP across 40.2 innings with the Rockies that season.

After 40 average games, Germen has been designated for assignment. Germen's ERA was 5.31 in the majors before being sent down. Germen's issue was his control, walking 25 batters over 40.2 innings.

Reliever Gonzalez Germen was called upon to put out a fire in the top of the eighth and he finished the ninth as well to record his second career save and first this year. Germen has a strong changeup but struggles at times with command. His ERA this year is 4.18 and his 24:16 K:BB hints at this being a short term solution in the ninth inning. Carlos Estevez blew saves in the previous two games but should be called upon if needed on Sunday. But with Adam Ottavino on rehab and Jake McGee nearing a return, there is going to be some turnover in the Rockies bullpen soon.

Getting his second tour of duty in Colorado, a reliever will look to improve for the Rockies. Gonzalez Germen has pitched well at Triple-A to open the season with seven strikeouts in six innings and with no earned runs on the season. If Germen can keep the ball on the ground, he could become a solid middle reliever with Colorado but he has struggled with the team in the past.
