Aroldis Chapman collected a one-out save on Tuesday against the Rays.
Chapman was summoned to record the final out of the ninth inning with the Red Sox leading by three runs at the time and needed just five pitches (three strikes) to fan Curtis Mead to end it. He’s converted all four of his save opportunities this season and appears pretty much locked in as Boston’s primary closer.
Aroldis Chapman took his first loss for the Red Sox after giving up a run in the bottom of the ninth Saturday against the White Sox.
The rally never should have started; Chapman got ahead of Luis Robert Jr. 0-2, dotted the corners with the next two pitches only to see them called balls and eventually walked him. A stolen base and a single later, the game was over. It’s the first run Chapman has allowed in six innings for Boston.
Aroldis Chapman got a two-out save in a four-run game against the Cardinals on Friday.
The Red Sox were up 13-6 going into the ninth today, but Chapman was needed after Cooper Criswell gave up three runs. Chapman walked the first batter he faced, loading the bases, but he then got a double play ball to end the game. It was the second save of the year for Boston’s primary closer.
Aroldis Chapman walked one and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save on Wednesday against the Orioles.
It is incredible that Chapman is still sitting 99 MPH and saving games at 37 years old. His command wavered a bit, as it often does, but he set down the Orioles rather easily to earn this save. He seems entrenched as the closer for the Red Sox and should see plenty of save opportunities this season.
