Oliver Drake has elected free agency.
Drake missed all of 2021 with a flexor strain. It's not clear what his health status currently is, but he can be a useful arm when able to take the mound.
Oliver Drake (elbow) is scheduled to make a minor-league rehab appearance on Tuesday with the Rays' Rookie-level Florida Complete League affiliate.
Drake will spend some time at Triple-A Durham before rejoining the Rays bullpen at some point in early August.
Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters Saturday that Oliver Drake (elbow) and Chaz Roe (shoulder) threw off a mound for the first time on Saturday morning.
Cash also added that both relievers are still "a ways away" before any potential return. Drake has been out since last postseason due to a right flexor strain, while Roe has been sidelined since early April due to a right shoulder strain. Barring any setbacks, they should be able to return to the Rays' bullpen at some point this summer.
Rays placed RHP Oliver Drake on the 60-day injured list with a right flexor strain.
The move officially rules him out through late May. Drake, who just recently re-signed with the Rays, suffered a flexor strain during the postseason last year and is still making his way back.
