Royals assigned IF Harold Castro, RHP Taylor Clarke, C Brian O’Keefe, and IF Tyler Tolbert to minor league camp.
None of the aforementioned players were favorites to break camp with the team; however, Castro could see at-bats this season as a depth piece, and Clarke will likely get innings out of the bullpen at some point during the season when injuries strike.
Royals signed INF-OF Harold Castro to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Following a miserable season with the Rockies in 2023, Castro, 31, spent last year hitting .320/.366/.447 in Mexico. That .813 OPS was barely above the league average of .800. While Castro can play a bunch of positions, he doesn’t offer much value at any of them. Making contact is his one major league skill at this point, and it’s probably not enough to justify a roster spot.
Harold Castro has signed with the Toros de Tijuana of the independent Mexican League.
Castro was removed from Colorado’s 40-man roster last October after batting .252/.275/.314 across 270 plate appearances. The 30-year-old offers some defensive versatility, but hasn’t produced enough at the dish at the highest level to hang onto a bench spot.
Rockies sent INF/OF Harold Castro to Triple-A Albuquerque.
In turn, Castro was removed from the Rockies’ 40-man roster. The 29-year-old wasn’t productive in a part-time role this year, posting a weak .252/.275/.314 batting line in 270 plate appearances.
