As we hit the All-Star break, many leagues also pass their trading deadline. When trading is no longer an option, free agency and waivers become even more important. "Real Life" trades also figure to play a major factor with veterans like Matt Garza (pictured) possibly on the move. Many times during the season, our weekly list has a nice piece or two, lacking depth... but this week is different. I feel there are a number of players featured in this week's edition of Waiver Flavor that can help your team in the short... and long term. I should note that three pitchers made an appearance this week, but were promptly sent back to the minors. Cleveland's Danny Salazar and Houston's Jarred Cosart had outstanding performances, while the pitcher with the best track record, Erasmo Ramirez of Seattle, was shelled. Depending on your particular league rules, I beleive each is worthy of "stashing".
Another great pitching prospect finally reaches "The Show" this week as Zack Wheeler joins Matt Harvey in the New York Mets rotation. We have Wheeler and Atlanta's Brandon Beachy on the list again this week for those of you in leagues that require a player to be on the 25-man roster to be eligible for pickup. Both Wheeler and Beachy are listed as probable starters in the Braves-Mets doubleheader on Tuesday. Ian Kennedy appears to be the big loser in the Los Angeles-Arizona brawl suspensions, getting docked ten games. The biggest fantasy news from that series was the changing of the guard in the ninth inning for the Dodgers with Kenley Jansen finally taking over closer duties from Brandon League.
