With the MLB trading deadline coming at the end of the month, we can expect it to not only impact the pennant races but fantasy as well. It appears that Matt Garza is all but headed to Texas for a package of prospects headlined by Mike Olt. We could see closers Kevin Gregg and Steve Cishek moved, not only impacting the situation at their new teams, but createing new roles at their old ones. With fantasy trading deadline passed, or passing, MLB trades will be the main source of impact players, along with the remaining minor league call ups.
With rosters expanding from 25 to up to 40 players, the waiver/free agent pool has grown considerably in fantasy leagues. Teams have brought up veterans to provide depth in pennant races, while clubs that are looking to next year take a look at prospects. With fantasy races coming down to the wire, its important to judge just who is going to get quality playing time in September. Texas teenage phenom Jurickson Profar is clearly the cream of the crop, already contributing, the infielder has a huge future. Stephen Strasburg has two starts left, Washington brings up his replacement and a surge of players return from the disabled list.
