The FPC is going to award $250,000 to one team that cost $350 to enter. And this is the perfect contest to get into to try "high-stakes" fantasy football at a "mid-stakes" level. There is no other contest in the industry like this. If you always wanted to try the “high-stakes” leagues but not quite ready to spend the $1650 or $1775 to draft in the FFPC Main Event then this is a great starting point. Being able to win at this level you would prove that you are the best of the best without a question. Our industry leagues are nice to be involved in but they really don’t match-up to what the Footballguys Players Championship offers along with the leagues offered by the FFPC.
The regular season of Footballguys Players Championship features a 12 team draft with the teams battling in Weeks 1-11 with the two best teams moving on to the Championship round. The winner of the championship round will take home $250,000. In order to take home this title, you will need some fantastic drafting, key free agent pick-ups, and little help from the fantasy gods as well. You won’t win this league by skimming by week to week hoping your opponent in that head to head format won’t score.
The great thing about this format is that you could win it with a solid 4 RB’s, 4 WR’s or even multiple tight ends in your weekly starting line-up so you can draft it whatever way you are comfortable. I personally am partial to focusing on the running back positions early on in drafts as that will be real thin after the first 4rounds of most drafts. The wide receiver position is the deepest of any position along with the fact that we see way more surprises in the end of year Top 20 rankings at that position. The winner of this championship will be someone that does not take a quarterback in the first 5 rounds of the draft as we see a ton of value out there. You will need those early picks to hit on those running backs and wide receivers.
Here is a sneak peek at what I think a $250,000 could possibly be : 3 running backs taken in the first three rounds like CJ Spiller, Chris Johnson and Frank Gore; snatch up 4 wide receivers/tight ends like Vincent Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Jared Cook and Josh Gordon; then in Round 8 would be a good time to snatch up QB like Tony Romo or Andrew Luck; then you will fill in the rest of the your roster with some handcuffs to your top running backs along with some high upside receivers/tight ends like Aaron Dobson, DeAndre Hopkins, Jordan Cameron, Rob Housler and Kendall Wright. The tight ends can’t be ignored in this format with a 1.5 ppr for that position. If you could find a way to hit on the tight end position, it could also take you to the next level.
If you are looking to step up your game beyond the home leagues but just not ready to spend the “high stakes” money, the footballguys players championships is a great place to get started at “mid-stakes” level. With only a $350 entry, the $250,000 top prize would be something truly special to win. Just like the FFPC, it would be your money and they don’t care how you spend it.
