Trevor Bauer Arizona SP- We received a sneak peek of Bauer early on this season and despite a spectacular first start, he was sent back down after four appearances. Bauer has definitely been too much for minor league hitters with a 12-2 mark across Double-A and Triple A, with an ERA of 2.42 and a 1.29 WHIP. Bauer's stuff is evident by virtue of his 157 strikeouts in 130 innings. Before solidifying a spot in the rotation, Bauer needs to work on his control, evidenced by 61 base on balls.
Charlie Blackmon Colorado OF- Called up to the majors two weeks ago, Blackmon is serving as a backup at all three outfield positions. Blackmon has solid contact in his left handed bat and also good speed on the base paths. In 287 minor league at bats, Blackmon hit six home runs, picked up 37 RBI and hit .289 with 13 stolen bases. With the Rockies, Blackmon is hitting only .146, but make no mistake, Blackmon will play a large role in the Rockies outfield in the near future.
Zach Lee LA Dodgers SP- The Dodgers did a great job of keeping Lee out of the mega deal that brought Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez to Los Angeles. Lee has been outstanding of late, allowing one run or less in four of his last five starts. The Dodgers signed Lee away from a quarterback gig at LSU and are glad they did. In 25 minor league starts across High-A and Double-A, Lee is 6-6 with a 4.39 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. Lee has a fastball in the upper 90's and has 103 strikeouts in 121 innings, while issuing only 32 walks.
Jedd Gyorko San Diego 3B- Gyorko is one of the top hitting prospects in the minors and could be playing third very soon in San Diego. Gyorko was a hitting maching as a rookie last season, leading the minors in hits and finishing second in RBI. In 499 at bats this season at Double-A and Triple-A, Gyorko is raking to the tune of 30 home runs, 100 RBI with a blistering .328 average. Gyorko is back from an ankle injury in August and could get the call any day.
Francisco Peguero San Francisco OF- Just called up last week, Peguero, along with Gary Brown, is the Giants top outfield prospect. Peguero has been an RBI machine at Triple-A with 68 RBI in 449 at bats. Peguero had five home runs, while hitting .272 in 105 games. Considered a top-100 prospect, Peguero is an agressive free swinger with a strong throwing arm and the ability to play either center or right field. Look for Peguero to get meaningful at bats down the stretch in September.
