As we turn the corner into August, teams will tap more and more into their farm systems. Clubs will be looking for a spark, relieve worn down veterans or fill in simply fill in holes created by players on the disabled list. We can expect a dozen or more teams called up on the first of September with roster expansion, but what help could be on the way sooner? We take a look at possibilities with each franchise, beginning with the American League East.

Travis d'Arnaud Toronto (C)- d'Arnaud missed a golden opportunity to prove himself at the Major League level with J.P.Arencibia going down with a fractured hand. You see, d'Arnaud has an injury of his own, a torn PCL in his left knee. When healthy, d'Arnaud showed he is ready at AAA Las Vegas, 16-52-.333 in 279 at bats.
Chris Archer Tampa Bay (P)- Archer got a quick look at the major league level in late June and didn't disappoint. Archer was 0-2 in two starts, but struck out 14 in 11.2 innings, allowing eight hits, five runs, while issuing only a pair of walks. Archer has the strikeout pitch going at AAA Durham, but his K/BB ratio needs work 102/51.
Dellin Betances NY Yankees (P)- The Yankees top pitching prospect is the subject of trade rumors whenever the Yanks are calling. Betances was actually demoted from AAA Scranton to AA Trenton five weeks ago. Betances is averaging more than a strikeout per inning, but is having serious control problems with nearly one per inning at Scranton.
Ryan Lavarnway Boston (C)- Red Sox backup catcher Kelly Shoppach has been mentioned frequently in trade talks and could still easily get moved after the waiver deadline. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is hitting the long ball, but wearing down. Lavarnway has been solid at AAA Pawtucket, 8-43-.298 over 315 at bats.
Xavier Avery Baltimore (OF)- Avery has had two stints at the major league level this season, 1-6-6 with a .233 average in 90 at bats. Avery would add some much needed speed in left field for Baltimore, which has been on exhibit at AAA Norfolk. Avery is hitting only .251, but has drawn 39 walks for a .347 OBA. Avery's 19 steals would add some punch to the O's lineup.
