Tony Cingrani and Jose Fernandez have grabbed the imagination of the fantasy baseball world. Two elite prospects who are now ready to make their mark, there has been a borderline hysteria to add each to fantasy squads across the land. Is spending a good deal of your free agent resources to add either arm a good move? We'll investigate the outlook of both rookies. We'll then move on to the ever changing role of the bullpen. Three teams in particular – the Cardinals, Cubs & Red Sox – are spinning their wheels once again trying to figure out who the best man is to hand the ball to in order to get the last three outs of the game.
I wanted to sit down tonight and finally write about some fantasy baseball for the first time in far too long. Since our show, The Fantasy Alarm Show has gone to five and sometimes six days a week it has gotten hard to encapsulate any additional thoughts into text. But alas I have a belly full of some weird Mike’s Hard Mango Punch crap that my wife stocked the refrigerator with (it’s just so yellow and yummy looking!) so here comes two weeks work of fantasy baseball angst.
Should you care about September call-ups: guys like Wil Myers, Billy Hamilton, Dylan Bundy and Shelby Miller? Mike Trout is still killing it. How long can he keep it up? Just how far has Adan Dunn rebounded? The homers are there, but what about his horrific batting average and atrocious strikeout pace? Roy Oswalt pitching better than you thought. Seriously. Should someone be giving him a chance to start?
On this special day in our nations history – by the way it might be more applicable for us to celebrate on July 2nd and not the 4th (see my report on why) – I'd like to extend my thanks to everyone who has ever fought for our freedoms be it with a sword, a cannon, a gun, a voice or the pen. Thanks you for giving us the freedom to do things like play fantasy baseball. Oh yeah, there's also some baseball stuff in this article too – though there really is no rhythm or reason today. I'm going to mention young hitters – guys like Brandon Belt and Ike Davis – I'll talk young callups on the hill like Chris Tillman and Trevor Bauer, and I'll also mention old guys like R.A. Dickey. Hey, what do you expect from a guy who is already four beers deep at 11 AM?
Yes, it's true, the regular season of football is over, so now is the time to start focusing on the diamond. You may barely be over your New Year's Eve hangover, I know the seven Long Island's I pulled back on are still affecting my vision, but it's time to get to breaking down the 2012 fantasy baseball season. To do that I'll take a sweep around the landscape of the game and give some thoughts on the major players that have switched teams this offseason either by trade or through free agent signings. Did you overlook any of the moves due to drinking, lack of interest, or your intense focus on the fantasy football season?
It is the end of another week of the fantasy baseball season and boy is there a lot of news today! We have one closer who is finally back active and pitching for his team, while another looks like he totally doesn't belong in the ninth inning anymore. We have a shortstop returning from injury, and a third baseman that I have a personal crusade against and will tell you not to bother with him. Not only that but we have a ton of pitching to talk about as always, some good, some not so much. So crack a cold one on this Memorial Day Sunday because hell, you don't have to work tomorrow!
