Mike Trout has been great this season, and he's been an elite fantasy option after a rather pedestrian month of April. Still, he hasn't been as impressive as he was last season, just as I predicted would be the case. How right, or wrong, were my preseason predictions for him through a third of the season? Chase Headley has seen his production decrease on a per at-bat basis this season for the Padres depressing all those who rostered him after his monster 2012 effort. What would you say if I told you that he hasn't fallen off nearly as far as you think he has? Finally, what about the recently returned from suspension catcher of the Padres Yasmani Grandal. How excited should you be to add him to your roster?
Some players never get their due, but when you look up at the end of the year the production is there. You know, those guys who produce solid numbers year after year but for some reason, be it their team, a lack of publicity, or a deficiency in their game, never quite get the respect that they are owed. We'll profile one of those guys at the top of this report. We'll then discuss surging pitchers (Cobb, Guthrie), struggling hurlers (Garza, Saito), injured batters (Grandal, Ortiz), a slumping hitter (Suzuki) and one that is en fuego (Jay).
So far we’ve seen a nice , steady influx of top rookie talent brought up this season, between Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, Anthony Rizzo and Trevor Bauer, just to name a few. Fantasy owners in keeper leagues are drooling over this youth infusion we’re getting and you can’t really blame them. The talent level is ginormous. So in the spirit of this fabulous youth movement, the Padres have joined in the fun and brought back up one of the top catching prospects in the game and it looks like they’re actually going to play him this time around. That’s right, San Diego finally grew tired of watching Nick Hundley try to pull himself out of a season-long funk and have decided to send him down to the minors to work things out. In exchange for Hundley, they’ve brought up Yasmai Grandal, a future-star behind the plate.
