Rounding the Bases: Sunday Highlights and a Few Quick Notes
The good news is that here on Monday, the games don’t start until 7pm (ET) so you can really take your time and study up on things before you have to set your lineup for the week. The bad news is that there’s a lot going on that you’re going to have to stay on top of during the day in order to set that lineup properly. Between Ryan Braun’s thumb injury and Hanley Ramirez’ hamstring MRI to the debuts of Gerritt Cole and Zack Wheeler, there seems to be a lot happening right now. Giancarlo Stanton and Logan Morrison are headed back from the DL this week. Ike Davis? He’s in Triple-A. Brandon McCarthy? Still suffering seizures. Matt Kemp won’t return from his injury on-time, Ian Kinsler is finally working his way back from his and good ol’ Chase Utley is right on schedule for his mid-June return. Are you writing this stuff down?
Rounding the Bases: The Injury Bug Takes Second Bite Out of Hanley, Sends Chris Davis for MRI
It’s been a fairly rough week for yours truly here, not just in real life (hence the absence for the majority of the week), but in the fantasy racket as well. Injuries have been absolutely brutal to all of my fantasy teams during this young season and Friday turned out to be yet another dark and dismal day in my attempts to climb back into contention. Obviously there’s plenty more to come, but when your team is sitting in a relatively deep hole and you continue to lose players faster than you are getting them back, the fantasy doldrums seem a lot like a permanent residence than just a temporary situation.

Apologies for the late start here today, folks, but sometimes life just throws you a few curveballs and today I’m swinging more like early-movie Pedro Cerrano. Jobu is not helping me do nothing here! But better late than never, right? So let’s get down to business and the first thing I want to do is to hit on one more pitching item that yesterday’s “pitcher injury” piece seemed to spark. I received a few emails actually asking, so what better way to address the big question than to do it right here: What the heck do I do with Tim Lincecum?
Rounding the Bases: Practicing Patience, Struggling Studs and Waiver Wire Help
While remaining patient in fantasy baseball is one of the most difficult things to do, it is also one of the most critical at this time of year. Sitting back and watching underperforming players is ridiculously frustrating, especially if those that aren’t pulling their weight are the ones you were relying on most, and their lack of production has you sitting, if not all the way at the bottom of your standing, at least real close to it. But as we get set to enter the final week of April, your patience with these players is now more important than ever.

If you caught me on the Fantasy Alarm Podcast on Tuesday night with Jeff Mans and Ashley Couturier, you heard me saying that I was getting ready to sit down and watch a series of games I had taped on the DVR and was gearing up to talk about middle infielders. And while I think we’ve got an excellent crop of young guys to discuss such as Dee Gordon and Jason Kipnis, I find myself being drawn to a relative old timer in the fantasy world. In all my years of playing fantasy baseball, I’ve never once owned this guy and yet, for all of the reasons I can give to avoid him, especially these days, I still find myself highlighting him at various points of the season.
2012 Fantasy Baseball News: Top Ten Off-Season Moves So Far
The weekly Top Ten list will now transition back to fantasy baseball as we approach the Super Bowl. Sure some of you still may be playing fantasy football playoff leagues or survivor pools, but most of you are now getting ready for baseball. Pitchers and catchers will be reporting to spring training in a month and fantasy magazines are hitting the newsstands. After an incredible end to the 2011 MLB season and a very entertaining World Series between the Cardinals and Rangers, everyone gets a clean slate and a fresh start. Part of starting anew is evaluating what changes have been made during the offseason. So, without further adieu, here are the Top Ten baseball offseason transactions (as of January 18, 2012) with the most fantasy implications.
September 15th: Holliday Hurting, Longoria Homering, Bailey Homered On and more!
Today marks exactly two weeks left in the regular season as teams, both fantasy and reality, need to make that last second push. So, an injury in St. Louis comes at the worst possible time, a player in Florida seems to be in his last few days with the team, but he isn't letting get him down, and a promising shortstop let me down in the nation's capital. We also have talk of a few middle of the road pitchers and what I expect from them next season, and one of my favorite third basemen and how he let me down this season. The sands of the hourglass have almost run out, but that doesn't mean that you can afford to miss the baseball roundup you know as Rounding The Bases.
August 23rd: Top Ten Fantasy Baseball Headlines
Welcome to the very special Earthquake Edition of the Tuesday Top Ten. If you didn’t hear the news, most of the east coast and regions out to Ohio experienced a 5.9 earthquake this afternoon at 1:51 PM. Clearly the reason for this is the fact that the Oakland A’s are in New York tonight to play the Yankees. Apparently they brought the San Andreas Fault with them on their charter plane. As a forewarning, there are absolutely no earthquake jokes or puns contained in this edition of the Top Ten. I thought it would be in poor taste to mock or defame the memory of John Tenta, otherwise known as Earthquake in the WWF. Remember when he squashed Jake Roberts’ snake and then made python burgers out of its remains? Now, without further adieu, here is this week’s edition of the Tuesday Top Ten fantasy baseball headlines for August 23, 2011.

Greetings and salutations to the fantasy baseball universe. It is everybody's favorite day of the week (and by everybody I mean nobody), so that means it is time for the Tuesday Night Top Ten list of newsworthy fantasy baseball happenings. We are now in Week 11 of the season which is hard to believe because it feels like just last week was Week 10. So without further adieu, here are your headlines for this Tuesday night.
June 1st: Storen Saves, Bruce Bashes, Craig Crushes and more!
The calendar changes again as we enter June and fantasy baseball is in full swing. It is prospect season now as many of the minors' best will be discussed in front offices as teams decide whether or not to bring their players up. You will likely see many over the next week or so, including Brett Lawrie even though he is resting a few days after being hit on the hand. You will likely really have to make some tough choices with these kids coming up as you can't have all of them so you have to hedge your bets on which one or two might be able to help your team. But there is plenty of other news and games happening each and every day so never miss a night of Rounding The Bases.
