OK, so we’re pulling in a little late to the station today. What can you do? Father’s Day weekend had a few more festivities than I expected and like a good dad I was sound asleep on the couch by 8:30 pm on Sunday. So again, rather than just stick to the top and bottom performances from Sunday, we’re going to splash in a few random fantasy baseball thoughts and some news for today that might be integral to setting your lineups for the week. Remember, the games don’t start until 7:00pm (ET) today so there’s plenty of time. And away we go…
It was like the Year of the Pitcher on the first day of the 2013 Major League Baseball season. The batters were up at the plate with the lumber, but try as they might they were unable to make solid contact in a ton of their at-bats. Which pitchers excelled the first time they took the hill? Which of the arms that did excel should be looked at for big things in 2013? Which of the arms should you be a bit worried about? Should we all be worried about managers curtailing the workload of those arms after so many were seemingly pulled well before their pitch total went into the danger zone in their first outing? We'll explore those thoughts in this piece. What a great sentence.
We are approaching another weekend in the fantasy baseball season as the calendar gets ready to turn to August and the dog days of the season. Even though you feel lik you have a pretty good grasp on most everyone on your team, there are some guys who are either going to going to soar or swoon in the next two months. We have a rough injury in Colorado, and a guy breaking out in San Diego. We have two pitchers and a hitter who have scorched it in the first half and I will tell you what to expect the rest of the way. There is that news and more in tonight's version of Rounding The Bases.
We have our first change in closers of the 2011 season as well as some injuries that continue to pile up and some good news on that front. We have a young player being moved to the leadoff role for his team, as we also have a slugger that will miss this week's games. There is a young catcher who gets some time, as well as some young pitchers who are already making an impact, as well as a veteran who came out of the gate slowly.
