I'm just going to be honest – and those of you that have the pleasure of knowing The Oracle know that he always is honest – this is going to be a somewhat rambling post in some respects. Normally I'm very structured with my approach. I hit on positions or list players alphabetically. None of that is happening today. I'm going to meander, ramble if you will, through a variety of thoughts dealing with fantasy baseball drafting. Yes, I did refer to myself in the third person at the top of this piece. According to the woman I'm dating I'm very arrogant. Is referring to myself in the third person arrogant? I prefer to think of myself as simply an interesting fellow with a healthy does of self confidence. Tit-for-tat I guess. Back to fantasy baseball drafting...
Rounding the Bases: Mike Trout Makes History...Again
While perhaps the story of the day should be how Bartolo Colon hasn’t allowed a run in 20.2 innings, dating back to July 22, center stage again belongs to everyone’s favorite rookie, Mike Trout. Turns out that when Trout homered off of A’s reliever Travis Blackley, he became the youngest player in MLB history to hit 20 home runs and steal 30 bases in a single season. Even better is that he did it on his 21st birthday! That’s right, for the first time in his fledgling career, Trout could actually celebrate one of these milestones with a legal alcoholic beverage. No more getting drenched with non-alcoholic sparkling cider, no more guys buying him root beers and Diet Cokes after the game. When they say it’s Miller time, it’s actually Miller time.
Rounding the Bases: Fantasy Fallout From MLB Trade Deadline and Other Tuesday Highlights
Well, Tuesday’s trade deadline brought on a flurry of activity in the baseball world which obviously sends ripples through the fantasy community as well. There were a number of expected movers and shakers in there along with a few surprising non-participants as well. Some of the deals have serious fantasy ramifications while others were more pertinent to the real baseball world, so let’s just go through them and see what’s affecting your fantasy teams here.
Rounding the Bases: Youkilis Rejuvenated, Ben Sheets Returns and the Man They Call 'The Showcase'
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure is how the old adage goes, and it couldn’t be any more perfect a phrase when discussing the trade of Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox just a few short weeks ago. Bobby Valentine may have won the Battle of Beantown, but it is the White Sox who have won the war and it is Youkilis who is enjoying the last laugh here. As the Red Sox try to fight their way out of last place and a 9 ½ game deficit in the AL East, the White Sox are sitting atop the AL Central, 3 ½ games ahead of heavily favored Detroit, and Youkilis has played a tremendous role in the process.

Rounding the Bases: Power Gets the Better of Pitching This Time Around
So here we were today with the fourth installment of Opening Day and while there was plenty of action to talk about with the afternoon games, the primary focus remained on Albert Pujols and his debut with the Angels. Thousands of flickering lights illuminated the stands at Angel Stadium on Friday night as everyone maneuvered in the stands to catch a shot of Prince Albert digging in for his first official American League at-bat. Unfortunately for those expecting a powerhouse debut, Pujols finished the night 0-for-3 with a walk and had a very unassuming evening. Angels fans will just have to wait another night for their 240 million dollar man to shine.

Happy Labor Day everyone, and as we say goodbye to summer, it is important to remember not to say goodbye to your fantasy baseball team as we roll through the last month of the season. Tonight we have a couple of returning players, one young one that I have all the hopes in the world for to finish the year strongly, the other is an older player that I gave up on long ago and took a lot of grief over my rankings of him before the season started. We have news on a couple of the more exciting young players in the majors, as well as an injury not for the Red Sox. But there is so much more than that as we come into the home stretch of the season so please don't miss Rounding The Bases.
Top Ten Fantasy Baseball Surprises of 2011
On the other side of the spectrum, here are the guys who came on to your roster and absolutely surprised you and led you to the current first or second place in the standings that you currently sit. Most of these guys were players who weren't even drafted but were the diamonds in the rough in fantasy baseball this season. These are the guys that separate the pretenders from the contenders. Below is a list of my ten favorites and how you can expect them to finish this season and how they will perform going forward in the coming years.

We are approaching another weekend in the fantasy baseball season as the calendar gets ready to turn to August and the dog days of the season. Even though you feel lik you have a pretty good grasp on most everyone on your team, there are some guys who are either going to going to soar or swoon in the next two months. We have a rough injury in Colorado, and a guy breaking out in San Diego. We have two pitchers and a hitter who have scorched it in the first half and I will tell you what to expect the rest of the way. After a brief hiatus, Rounding The Bases is back and ready to lead you in the second half of the season to a fantasy championship.
