As we turn the corner into August, teams will tap more and more into their farm systems. Clubs will be looking for a spark, relieve worn down veterans or fill in simply fill in holes created by players on the disabled list. We can expect a dozen or more teams called up on the first of September with roster expansion, but what help could be on the way sooner? We take a look at possibilities with each franchise, beginning with the American League East.
In this week's edition of The Farm Report we take a look at major league talent, that for one reason or another, is getting some time in the minor leagues. All twelve players on our list have spent time at the major league level this season, and all will return at some point. Our list consists of five starting pitchers, two relievers, three first baseman and two outfielders. Our list even features a pitcher whom we are not sure is on the Cubs.... or Atlanta and he probably won't be the only member of our Dirty Dozen who may be trading places.
Does it seem that an extraordinary amount of pitching has ended up on the disabled list this season? While it sure seems that way, studies show the numbers are actually below the norm. What we do know for sure is that you have an open pitching spot on your roster or will have one open up sometime this week.
