Have we reached the dog days of Summer yet? If your team resembles mine, there are a number of areas that need a boost. What are we looking for at this point of the season? As we hurdle towards the midway point, trades, injuries and minor league call-ups make up the core of player availability.

Trevor Plouffe INF Minnesota- Plouffe homered in four straight games last week, including a pair Friday night against Milwaukee. Plouffe qualifes at shortstop, third base and outfield and is one of the Twins top prospects. If, by chance, he is still available in your league, you know what to do.
Ike Davis 1B NY Mets- After going 2-for-4 on Tuesday, Davis turned the corner by getting a start against nasty left hander David Price of Tampa Bay. Over his last eight games, Davis is 11-for-23 with a home run and seven RBI. Given he is still hitting only .194 on the season, this is a substantial improvement.
Casey McGehee 1B/3B Pittsburgh- Need a cornerman? Get him while he's hot! Over the past week, McGehee is 10-for-23 with two home runs and seven RBI. McGehee is going to need to maintain the pace to get time at first over Matt Hague and Garrett Jones, or at third in place of Pedro Alvarez. At a minimum, he will continue against left handers.
Tyler Moore 1B/OF Washington- With a plethora of injuries, Nationals manager Davey Johnson has done a masterful job of mixing lineups. With Jayson Werth still out and 1B Adam LaRoche battling nagging injuries, Moore has been a regular against left handers. Five hits over his last three starts, including a pair of home runs at Toronto keeps him in the picture.
Craig Gentry OF Texas- Good rule of thumb... when a Texas hitter is getting playing time and he is available, give it serious thought. Last week, we brought Cuban prospect Leonys Martin to your attention with a mention of Gentry. In five starts over last week, Gentry is 8-for-18 with three RBI and five runs scored.
Justin Maxwell OF Houston- A high draft pick by Washington, Maxwell is finally getting playing time in Houston. The Astros outfield is loaded with prospects, but Maxwell is doing his best to carve out a spot. In six starts over the last eight days, Justin is 6-for-21 with a pair of home runs and six RBI. Maxwell now has seven dingers in 111 at bats.
Brandon Moss OF Oakland- There is not a hotter hitter in baseball than Brandon Moss. The streak began with a pair of bombs at Coors Field on Tuesday and continued with home runs each of the following three games. Over the past week, Moss is 8-for-23 with five home runs and 10 RBI.
Tyler Colvin OF Colorado- After the Cubs gave up, a chance of scenery has helped Colvin. Over the last half dozen starts, Colvin is 10-for-25 with four home runs and seven RBI. Colvin is earning a regular role against right handers in a very crowded outfield populated by Carlos Gonzalez, Dexter Fowler and Michael Cuddyer.
