First of all, Happy Memorial Day weekend to all! A special thanks to all those who have served and our serving our country. Memorial Day weekend is a great opportunity to get out and support your local team, be it at the major or minor league level. I am taking the family to what I hope to be a preview of the "Beltway Series" as the Baltimore Orioles visit Nationals Park here in Washington. I had hoped to catch elite prospect Kevin Gausman, but he isn't pitching until Tuesday. We have a nice group of options for you this week, from Gausman to top hitting prospect Jurickson Profar.

Kevin Gausman SP Baltimore- Gausman had an uneven debut, but I like his potential even better than teammate Dylan Bundy. Anytime you can hit 99 on the gun and your best pitch is a change up, big time success is only a matter of time. Gausman has less than 50 innings of pro experience and was pitching for LSU less than a year ago.
Rex Brothers RP Colorado- Rafael Betancourt looks like he has overcome hamstring problems, but Brothers has been untouchable nonetheless. Brothers has only allowed one run all season over 22 innings of work. The future closer has a WHIP of 1.13 and is striking out a batter per inning, while issuing only eight walks.
Francisco Rodriguez RP Milwaukee- Jim Henderson is injured and John Axford may not have earned the confidence of the coaching staff... yet. K-Rod picked up his first save on Friday night and has yet to allow a base runner in three and a third innings of work. Manager Ron Roenicke says it will be committee, but Rodriguez certainly bears watching.
John Danks SP Chicago White Sox- Danks pitched for the first time in a year on Friday night and had a nice outing. Danks allowed three runs on four hits against the Marlins, striking out five, while not issuing a walk. Danks is still only 28 years old and had a very nice run between 2008-2010, with 40 wins, an ERA in the mid 3's and WHIP in the mid 1.2's.
Tyler Cloud SP Philadelphia- Cloud was recalled and continues to show that he deserves a spot in the Phils rotation. Cloud was recalled on Tuesday night in time for a nice start against the Marlins. Cloud shut down the Diamondbacks in his only other start earlier this month, this despite serious struggles in Triple-A.
Tyler Chatwood SP Colorado- Three straight solid starts by Chatwood is earning respect in Colorado and around fantasy nation. Two of the starts came against the San Francisco Giants, with Chatwood working 11 and a third, with an 0.77 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. A strikeout ratio of 8-to-5 is reason for concern and his success won't last if that continues.
Zack Wheeler SP NY Mets- Get a jump on the competition, Wheeler will be in the Big Apple within two weeks. Mets fans have been dreaming of Matt Harvey and Wheeler atop their rotation and will soon be rewarded. Wheeler has overcome shoulder soreness to hit 100 on the gun, but has struggled at hitting happy Las Vegas in Triple-A.
Jurickson Profar 2B Texas- While Profar may only be at the major league level until Ian Kinsler returns from the disabled list, he has an opportunity to earn a spot. Somebody probably has to move to the outfield for Profar to stick. In a timeshare with Leury Garcia, Profar is 2-for-9 with a couple of RBI and a run scored.
Leonys Martin OF Texas- The highly regarded Martin is finally delivering and may be close to earning an every day role in center field. Craig Gentry still earns starts against tough left handers, but Martin is 11-for-32 over the past two weeks, with a home run, three RBI and most importantly five stolen bases.
Yan Gomes C Cleveland- Carlos Santana blocks Gomes behind the plate, but the way Gomes is swinging the bat he is forcing the Tribe to find a spot for him in the lineup. Gomes is hitting .458 over the past two weeks (11-for-24) with three home runs and seven RBI. There isn't a fantasy team around that couldn't use those numbers behind the plate.
David Adams 3B NY Yankees- With the Chris Nelson experiment moving to Anaheim, Adams will hold down the hot corner until Alex Rodriguez' return. Adams has a pair of home runs since taking over and is 10-for-31. Adams also brings dual positon eligibility that includes second base.
DJ LeMahieu 2B Colorado- The 6'4' prospect takes over at second base with the surprising demotion of Josh Rutledge. LeMahieu was raking in Triple-A to a .364 clip and is an elite defender. A 7-for-17 start with three RBI moves him onto our list for your consideration.
Chris Dickerson OF Baltimore- With Nolan Reimold on the disabled list, Dickerson has stepped up and is swinging a hot bat. Two home runs on Tuesday night off Phil Hughes caught everyone's attention, but he is hitting .333 with three home runs and six RBI with a stolen base over the past two weeks.
Yasiel Puig OF LA Dodgers- The proactive selection of the week, Don Mattingly and crew admitted they are considering calling up the talented Puig. Puig, who has drawn comparisons to Bo Jackson, has been raking at Double-A, hitting .412 over his past nine games. A trade of Andre Ethier may be in the works.
