Although we have already seem a large number of prospects make their debuts, there are plenty more “down on the farm” that will make their mark this season. Who is the next Dustin Ackley? Are you prepared to “jump” on the next prospect that gets called up? Just in the past few weeks we have seen elite prospects like Mike Trout and Lonnie Chisenhall make their major league debuts. Real life pennant races are unusually tight so you can expect an unusually high number of call-ups. Those out of the race will also be active wanting to take a look at what’s in store down the line. Fantasy Alarm takes a look at a “Dirty Dozen” of must get prospects.
Dayan Viciedo- Corner Infield/Outfield-Chicago White Sox
The Viciedo watch continues with the focus turning to free agent bust Adam Dunn. Manager Ozzie Guillen backed Juan Pierre through his struggles. Viciedo will be worth the wait…. once he arrives.
Brett Lawrie-Third Base-Toronto Blue Jays
We almost got our first -look at Lawrie during Memorial Day weekend, but a broken hand suffered on a hit by pitch set his celebrated call-up back a bit. One assumes Bautista moves back to right field when that time comes.
Jason Kipnis-Second Base-Cleveland Indians
The Indians have been very prospect friendly during their surprise run in the AL Central. Kipnis may be the best of the bunch.
Desmond Jennings- Outfield- Tampa Bay Rays
Thought by many to step in for Carl Crawford right out of spring training, Jennings has been sidelined by injury every time it appears his time has come.
Jacob Turner-Starting Pitcher- Detroit Tigers
Detroit prospect Andrew Oliver disappointed, but Jacob Turner is the real deal. Rumor out of the Motor City is that Turner will make his debut within the week.
Lorenzo Cain-Outfielder- Kansas City Royals
A key in the trade that sent Zach Grienke to Milwaukee, Kansas City appears to be preparing to trade Melky Cabrera at the deadline to make room.
Mike Montgomery-Pitcher- Kansas City Royals
Much like Cleveland, the Royals have been very active moving prospects in and out of the majors. Montgomery is their best pitching prospect and his time is coming…. soon
Jesus Montero-Catcher- New York Yankees
Are all the Yankees going to break down at once? Posada, Jeter, now A Rod. Russell Martin is a -relatively speaking- younger member of the Bronx Bombers so concerns about the aging of backstop turned DH Jorge no longer exist.
Shelby Miller-Starting Pitcher- St. Louis Cardinals
The 2009 first round pick has made his way to AA and may be a September call-up…. if not sooner. Miller is the crown jewel of Cards minor league hurlers.
Matt Moore-Pitcher- Tampa Bay Rays
I liken the situation with Moore akin to that of Nationals phenom Bryce Harper. If a player is ready why do we keep hearing “they are too young?” Is there any doubt this kid is one of the best ten pitchers in the Tampa organization….. right how?
Matt Dominguez-Third Base- Florida Marlins
A fractured elbow in spring training prevented Dominguez from going North with the club in April. Wait a minute, do Marlins actually head north? Debut may be delayed due to Emilio Bonifacio performance of late- making him the hottest hitter in all of baseball.
AAA Braves Pitchers
What’s with the Braves pitchers? I believe they have the best staff in baseball, yes better than Philadelphia. And they have a trio of pitchers in AAA that could be in the rotation for half the clubs in the league. Julio Teheran, Mike Minor and Randall Delgado. Yes, think Glavine, Maddux and Smoltz.
